Summit County search and rescue crews and a helicopter spent most of Friday scouring the High Uinta Mountains area searching for a missing Utah County Boy Scout.

The Scout, 12-year-old Garrett Bardsley of Elk Ridge, and members of Troop 694, sponsored by the Salem Eighth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were in the Pass Lake area, just north of Mirror Lake, off U-150 in Summit County.

Bardsley disappeared around 8 a.m. Friday when he went to change clothes after getting wet while fishing with his father, a member of the ward that sponsors the troop said.

Kevin Bardsley, his father, is helping in the search while Heidi Bardsley, the boy's mother, is on a cruise with her parents, unaware that her son is missing, the ward member said.

A command post was set up at a trailhead off U-150 at about milepost 32, a Summit County police dispatcher said.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter assisted in the search, DPS Sgt. Greg Willmore said. At press time the search was continuing, and the dispatcher said it will continue on Saturday.
