When Lee Benson was in the sports section, his column was funny and insightful. But since he has become a regular columnist, he has become less entertaining and generally wrong. His column about Christmas bordered on ridiculous. How is it that through 200 plus years of this country, the almost universal celebration of Christmas and the religious aspects of that holiday didn't bring about the wholesale ruin of it? How were we able to celebrate openly and with government participation this holiday and somehow manage to not turn into a wholesale theocracy?

If people like Benson can show me what harm it has done to our country for school kids to sing Christmas carols or how someone has suffered damage because a city put up a Nativity, I might change my opinion.

In his quest to be tolerant and fair, Mr. Benson has simply lost his way.
