The Unified Fire Authority has accepted the resignation of Dennis Steadman, a former battalion chief accused of enticing a minor over the Internet.
His resignation was effective Feb. 17, the day after he was arrested by agents from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The Utah Attorney General's Office, which is charging Steadman with two counts of second-degree felony, believes Steadman was planning to meet a 13-year-old girl in Salt Lake City on Feb. 16. Instead, he met agents, one of whom had been posing as a girl online.
Steadman was placed on administrative leave while he sat in jail for a week. Upon his release, he submitted his resignation.
Unified Fire, in a news release, says the agency is concerned about maintaining a high level of trust in the community.
"We can assure the public that the Unified Fire Authority will take swift and appropriate action with any employee who may violate that trust," the release says.
