Verizon Wireless, which has several hundred employees at a West Valley call center, and Qwest Communications International Inc. have completed Verizon's purchase of Qwest Wireless' spectrum licenses and certain network assets.

The $418 million deal was announced last July. Verizon said the licenses will increase its capacity in key existing markets as well as expand the company's network into new markets.

The agreement includes spectrum licenses in 62 markets in 14 Western and Midwestern states, including the Salt Lake City/Ogden and Provo/Orem markets. The deal also includes Qwest Wireless' network switching centers, cell sites and related network equipment, which operate on the same standard as the Verizon network.

Fifty-four of the licenses are in markets where Verizon already operates its network and will be used to expand capacity to meet growing demand for voice and data services. Salt Lake City is among those markets. The transaction does not include any subscribers.
