Charles Rex Berry 1924 ~ 2005 PROVO, UTAH-Charles Rex Berry, 80, passed away July I, 2005 peacefully at his home in Provo, Utah. He was born September 9, 1924 in Moab to William Carl Berry and Leah Sommerville. He is survived by and was a devoted husband to Helen and a loving and dedicated father to their three children, Linda Roberts (Dean), Douglas Berry (Lori), Julie Slaugh (Leigh). He was a great example to his 14 grand children, 31 great-grandchild ren and all who knew him. He had a great athletic career, graduating from Carbon High where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He attended BYU, where he won all-conference honors as a halfback on the football team and pitched for the Cougar Baseball team. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1951. He became an All-pro defensive back and has been inducted into the BYU and Utah Sports Hall of Fame. He was recognized as one of Utah's best athletes of the century. After retiring from football he had a successful career with U. S. Steel and Coastal Chemical Corporation. Rex was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as bishop, on the high council and in many other callings. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Blaine and Burke and his sisters, Merlene and Norma. Funeral Services will be Thursday July 7th at 12 noon at the LDS chapel, 3500 North 180 East, Provo. Family and friends may call Wednesday July 6th from 6-8 pm at the same location and Thursday from 10:30am until time for the service. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
