BYU senior Aaron Wagner has been drafted by the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. Wagner, who has one year of eligibility remaining with the Cougars, was the sixth selection of the second round in today's draft. Wagner, a 6-3, 247-pound linebacker, was the 14th overall pick in the draft and the second selection by the Argonauts.
Wagner, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, transferred to BYU after playing in 13 games at Washington State as a true freshman, including the Cougars' 28-20 win over Texas in the 2003 Holiday Bowl.
Wagner saw action in six games last season before suffering a season-ending injury. Wagner was credited with 15 tackles on the season, including six solo tackles.
While Wagner will compete at BYU during the 2006 season, Toronto owns the rights to Wagner should he decide to play in the CFL next season.
