More than 153,000 votes were cast by young readers in Utah for the 2006 Beehive Awards.

Young readers spent last year reading books from selected lists, then voted for their favorites in school and public libraries. The winners were announced at the annual meeting of the Utah Children's Association of Utah on Friday.

Winners in the five categories are:

Picture books: "Some Dogs Do" by Jex Alborough.

Children's fiction: "Dragon Rider" by Cornelia Funke.

Informational book: "Actual Size" by Steve Jenkins.

Poetry: "Rolling in the Aisles" by Bruce Lansky.

Young adult: "Airborn" by Kenneth Oppel.
