Univision's sale Tuesday will not affect operations at the Univision Utah television station.
Salt Lake-based Univision Utah is owned by Equity Broadcasting Corp., the second-largest affiliate group of both the Univision television network and Univision's TeleFutura network, according to the station's general manager, Arlene Urias.
"Everything stays the same," Urias said. "We are not owned by Univision, so (the transaction) has nothing to do with our operations or anything."
Univision Utah, 215 S. State, includes a staff of 20. And while the national discussion centered around the terms and implications of Tuesday's buyout, Urias said the Salt Lake station is focusing on managing growth.
"We want to grow both stations here, Univision and TeleFutura," she said. "We want to grow our newsroom and do more local programming as well.
"We also have our Web site (www.univision-utah.com), and we organize the Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Gallivan Center every year. That gets bigger and bigger every year."
Launched four years ago, Univision Utah "keeps growing every day," Urias said, accelerated by events like the FIFA World Cup and the larger-than-expected immigration-related march held in Salt Lake City in April.
"Business has tripled in just the last two months," Urias said. "There is interest and awareness."
