George M. Paulson, Jr. 1934 ~ 2006 George Melvin Paulson, Jr., 71, died at his home September 16, 2006 surrounded by his loving family after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. George was born in Salt Lake City, Utah October 28, 1934 to George Melvin (Mark) Paulson, Sr. and Zora Colton Paulson. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from South High School where he served as a student body officer. He attended the University of Utah, majoring in civil engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He met his wife, Sharee Callister, at the University of Utah the day after he returned from his mission. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple June 9, 1959. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1961 with J.D. and M.B.A. degrees. After graduation, he worked as an assistant to the Utah State Attorney General. In 1965, he became the General Counsel for General Paper Corporation of America. In 1967, he joined the legal department of Gulf Oil where he worked until 1980. He then joined Phillips Petroleum Corporation specializing in Natural Resources Law. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1994 as general counsel for Sinclair Oil. Since his retirement in 1996, he enjoyed real estate investing and operating small businesses. George had great devotion to the LDS Church. He was an Eagle Scout and supported the scouting program throughout his life. He fulfilled a mission to the Northern States Mission (1955-57). He served in many callings including serving as a bishop of two wards, several high councils, an inner-city missionary in Salt Lake City, and a counselor in a mission presidency. Active in many civic and community organizations, he recently served as president of the Capitol Hill Kiwanis Club. George and Sharee are the proud parents of six children, Elizabeth Ann (Steve) Brunt, Highland, UT, Carol Marie (Rick) Moody, Provo, UT, Cathleen Joan (Steve) Davis, Draper, UT, Julia Lynn (Bradley) Rasmussen, Holladay, UT, George Mark (Krista) Paulson, Castle Rock, CO, David Louis (Nicole) Paulson, Orem, UT. He has 21 grandchildren, each of whom has cherished memories with their Granddad. George was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie (Reed) Price; two brothers, Mack and Jay Paulson; and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife; six children; and siblings, Boyd (May) Paulson and Barbara Durham (David) Hatch. George was a loving, empathetic husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a beloved brother and uncle. He loved his nieces and nephews. He is remembered for being friendly and caring and being a distinguished, positive influence in every setting. The family greatly appreciates the loving care he received from the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Caregiver Support Network. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21, 2006, 12 noon at the Ensign Peak Ward chapel, 125 E. North Sandrun Road. Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S, Salt Lake City, Utah, Wednesday evening, September 20, from 5-8 p.m. or at the church from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the services.
