Flying was to become a life long passion. He also served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; he flew over 100 combat missions during his career. Boyd achieved the rank of Colonel and served as base commander in Bangor, Maine; Oscoda, Michigan; Minot, North Dakota and Spokane, Washington. He earned the Silver Star and was highly decorated for his dedicated service. Church service was important to him; he was District President in Slough, England; Branch President in Oscoda, Michigan and Minot, North Dakota; and Bishop in Spokane, Washington and Perry, Utah. A few years after retiring from the military, Boyd returned to Perry where he and Janice built their dream home and farmed the orchards he worked in as a boy. During this time he served as Mayor of Perry. He and Janice loved to golf together and often flew to visit family in Boyd's Piper Taildragger. Survivors include his children Boyd (Karen) White II, Alana (Greg) Nielson, Kenneth White and Brett (Deb) White; his brothers Clark (Grace) White, Richard White, and his sister Marjorie White Meacham; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
