Elizabeth Call Barlow

1922 ~ 2007

Elizabeth Call Barlow passed away peacefully, September 27, 2007, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Bountiful, Utah August 21, 1922 to Henry D. and Violet Wood Call. She married David Beck Barlow December 26, 1942 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He preceded her in death January 5, 1980. She graduated from Davis High School in 1940 and received her degree from Utah State University in 1944. While at Utah State she served as president of Chi Omega for several years. She and her husband David lived in Cambridge, MA, Bountiful, UT, and the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been a resident of Salt Lake City since 1982.

Elizabeth was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled numerous callings in her wards. She was a great support to her husband who served as stake president and bishop in the Bay Area. Her greatest treasure was her testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Elizabeth was also a lover of literature and the arts, and enjoyed being physically active. She regularly played tennis until recently, and traveled extensively throughout the world. She was a wonderful hostess and loved to entertain family and friends. She was a confidant and friend to all she knew. She was the shining matriarch of her family. Her legacy was one of a loving and faithful wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to those who knew her simply as "Mema".

She is survived by all seven of her children, David Beck Barlow, Jr., of Danville, CA; Rebecca Barlow Salt of Fairfax, VA; Deborah Barlow of Brookline, MA; Elizabeth Barlow Ricks of Scarsdale, NY; Thomas Call Barlow of Draper; Katherine Barlow Larsen of Salt Lake City; and Jonathan Call Barlow of Brigham City. She is survived by 32 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Richard Call, Stephen Call, Jay Call, H.D. Call; a brother-in-law, Haven Barlow; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Barton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, Mount Olympus 12th Ward, 4176 S. (Adonis Dr.) and 3930 E. (Gary Rd) in SLC. A viewing will be Thursday, October 4th from 6-9 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr., in Salt Lake City. Burial will be at the Syracuse City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to be made to LDS Humanitarian Aid.
