Earl C. Stansfield Utah Artist Earl Carlyle Stansfield, 86, passed peacefully to his maker, February 7, 2007, finishing a remarkable life of a very special renaissance man; as an accomplished artist, teacher, loving husband, father, and leaving a growing, large posterity much stronger because of his example. He was a High Priest at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Earl was born February 29, 1920 (leap year), Mt. Pleasant, Utah, the youngest of 11 children of Fred and Mary (Carter) Stansfield. As a result of small pox, he was left blind in one eye, yet he became an accomplished artist, producing more than 200 oil paintings as a lasting legacy for all. He married Glena Paulsen (later divorced); then Marjorie Massey, who preceded him in death, and later Viola Coles (recently deceased). He outlived all his beloved siblings: Alta, Venetta, Roma, Lee, Wayne, Yale, Ralph, Margaret, Russell, and Mac Stansfield. His children include Julia L. (Dennis) Hogan, Marilyn S. (Ted) Walldorf, Steven E. (Joanne) Stansfield, Col. Randell G. (Kenra) Stansfield, Carri Stansfield, Linda S. Allred, Dennis E. (Debra) Stansfield, Melody (Eric Werner) Lucky, with 26 grand-children, 45 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Earl attended Stanford and graduated from BYU. Dad taught art for 36 years at Mt. Jordan Jr. High; also was president of the Jordan School District Teachers Assn. Dad remained a lifelong inspiration to many students with his gentle ways and flair for living. Besides painting, he enjoyed golf, motorcycle traveling, and photography. He took pleasure in getting away to his Hemet California retreat for the winters; capturing on canvas the Western landscapes he loved. "Dad, the stars shine brighter now because we know how many are rejoicing and welcoming you home where love and joy abide because you are there." The family thanks the staff of Care Source Hospice and Highland Cove Retirement Center for their loving care and friendship for the past five years. Earl's children will be receiving family and friends Sunday evening, February 11, 2007, at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 S. State St., Murray, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services to be held Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at South Cottonwood (5605 South Vine Street), with a viewing one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Snow College, Ephraim, UT. or Springville Museum of Art, Springville, Utah. Interment at the Murray City Cemetery.
