Obituary: Samuel C. Rudd

Samuel C. Rudd Sam Samuel Charles (Sam) Rudd passed away June 30, 2007. Sam was born January 15, 1917 in Salt Lake City the eldest of four sons to Charles P. and Gladys Harman Rudd. He grew up in the Salt Lake area where he worked for his father in his poultry business and attended Grant Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High and South High School. In 1935 he was called to serve as one of the earliest Brazilian missionaries for the LDS Church. The mission experiences and the friendships he developed there stayed close to his heart throughout his life. Sam was instrumental in keeping that group of early missionaries close by helping organize yearly reunions that were held up until the past few years. On October 11, 1941 he married Marjorie Thompson (his Little Margie) in the Salt Lake Temple. He never missed a day without expressing his love and devotion her. She adored him and together they created a wonderful home for their five daughters; Judi, Charleen, Nancy, Holly and Kristie. He had an adventurous spirit and was not afraid to take a risk. In his early years he raised and showed Boxer Dogs and later Registered Shetland and POA ponies. He also was part owner of poultry businesses and owned and operated Sunni-Sands RV Park in Yuma Arizona along with many motels. He raised turkeys in Crescent Utah for many years. Sam was known for his compassion and the Christ Like service he gave to others. He spent much of his time visiting the elderly, shut-ins and widows in the area. He was a man with a great sense of humor and quick wit and was admired by many for his kindness and great example. Above all he was a loving family man who doted over his wife and daughters. Although his daughters grew and became wives, mothers and grandmothers he always thought of them as his little girls. He took them on many wonderful trips that have kept them close together. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved them dearly and never missed telling them so. Sam leaves a great legacy to his wife Margie, daughters Judith (Ross) Fairbourn Erda, Charleen (Vern) Dickman Sandy, Nancy (John) Acquisto West Jordan and Kristie (Roger) Liston Turlock, CA. His twenty six grandchildren and forty nine great grandchildren. Is also survived by his three brothers Glen (Marva) and Calvin (Lavon), Jack (Mary), and Sister- in- Law Alice Thompson of Salt Lake City. His many nieces and nephews adored their Uncle Sam. He was preceded in death by his daughter Holly Anderson, grandchildren Jason Anderson, Kimberly Dickman and two great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to both the Coventry and Wentworth at Cottonwood Heights, Sunbrook Hospice and our sweet Shaima for the tender care and compassion shown to Sam and his family. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood 12th Ward, 1750 E. Spring Lane (5240 So.) Friends and family may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Jenkins and Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy. (10600 South) and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church.
