Mary Morris Mock

1913 ~ 2007

Mary Morris Mock died at her home on August 9th, 2007 with her daughter and granddaughter at her side.Mary Morris Mock was born at home in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 30, 1913, the first child of Benjamin Phillip Morris and Hazel Tomlinson. Mary, by her own accounts, was a wild and crazy child and delighted in stories of all the trouble she would get into with her cousin Lucille who lived next door. Mary went to Wasatch Elementary School, Bryant Middle School and East High School. She attended the University of Utah but left before completing her education degree in order to marry Hoyt Hyder Ellerbeck, with whom she had her daughter, Hoyt Hydie Ellerbeck, known to all as Heidi. They later divorced.

Mary worked for ten years in the practices of a Dr. Lindstrom and her brother Dr. Richard Morris.

She met the love of her life, Henry Byron Mock while ice-skating. He was the Regional Director of The Bureau of Land Management. They were married on November 11, 1949.

Mary was very social and had many dearly beloved friends, most of whom have passed on before her. Her life was full and rich with her love of fine art and antiques, which she learned about from her aunt, and she became a respected expert in this field and friends and acquaintances called on her for advice and counsel.

Mary was a kind and loving person to all who knew her. She devoted her life to her family, caring for her parents in their later years, as well as helping to raise her two grandchildren in whom she took pride and joy. Mary was delighted and blessed by the arrival a few years ago of her great grandson and a few weeks ago by her great granddaughter.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother and her beloved husband Henry Byron Mock. Her daughter, Heidi Ellerbeck Mock, her grandson, survives her, Richard (Dick) Dodge (Margaret McDaniel) her granddaughter, Ann ("my precious") Christina Mock, and her great grandchildren, Benjamin and Delia.

The family wishes to thank Millcreek Home Health and Hospice for their love and care of our mother and grandmother and Dr. Jenny Bell for her many years of wonderful and compassionate care.
