Nebo School District elementary students will come back to three new schools when they return this month, including two in Springville and one in Spanish Fork.
The old Spanish Fork Middle School is now Cherry Creek Elementary, replacing the old Grant School in Springville. Meanwhile, Brookside Elementary, also in Springville, has been refurbished and enlarged to handle three times the students, said Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey.
A new elementary, Riverview Elementary, opens in Spanish Fork with Sandra Jarvis as the principal. Also new to the district is Kristy Nebbins, who was named as principal to Park View Elementary in Payson.
Other new principals and assistants were already employed by the district but were shifted and promoted to other schools. They include:
Rob Kennington from Santaquin Elementary to Park Elementary in Spanish Fork.
Susan Huff from Westside Elementary in Springville to Santaquin Elementary.
Sara Madden from Park View in Payson to Westside Elementary.
Troy Peterson, assistant principal at Spanish Fork High to Diamond Fork Junior High in Spanish Fork as principal.
Carl Swenson, an assistant at Spanish Fork High, becomes the new principal at Payson Junior High.
Darryl Rolfe, assistant principal at Payson High, to Springville Junior High as principal.
Ann Anderson from Springville High to the new Salem Hills High School in Salem (slated to open in 2008).
Rick Robbins, assistant principal Springville High School to principal of that school.
Nebo School District has hired some 275 teachers, including more than 40 teachers who will fill new positions.
Meanwhile, Alpine School District hired 525 teachers for the coming semester and five elementary school principals, said spokeswoman Jerrilyn Mortensen.
The new principals:
Susan Mattinson at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Cedar Hills. She moves from Rocky Mountain Elementary where she was an assistant principal.
Vicki Carter at Central Elementary in Pleasant Grove. She was a principal in the Jordan School District.
Alisa Hart at Cherry Hills Elementary in Orem. She was an assistant at Snow Springs Elementary.
Former teacher Cathy Matheson at Greenwood Elementary in American Fork will now be the principal.
Kestin Mattinson, a former teacher and curriculum specialist to Grovecrest Elementary in Pleasant Grove as the principal.
In the Provo School District officials named former teacher Ann Marie Harrison principal of Sunset Elementary. The district is spending more than $1 million on the building for new classrooms and offices, said spokesman Greg Hudnall.
The district is rebuilding Timpanogos Elementary on 500 West with an expected opening in the fall of 2009. Students from that school are attending classes at the former Oakridge School in Provo.
Provo School District is also building a new elementary school in the Lakeview neighborhood in west Provo scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. Officials are considering drawing new boundaries for that school and perhaps closing Grandview Elementary.
In August alone the district hired more than 200 new employees, including teachers, tutors, maintenance workers and other staff.
