President Gordon B. Hinckley, the 15th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, used a variety of means to share his messages, including the written word.
The most recent book, "One Bright Shining Hope" (2006, Deseret Book), features the prophet's counsel for women.
"When you save a girl, you save generations," President Hinckley said. "I see this as the bright shining hope in a world that is marching toward moral self-destruction."
Deseret Book also has published two volumes of discourses. Volume 1 comprises President Hinckley's talks from 1995-99, many of which were being published for the first time. The second volume covers 2000-04.
"Stand a Little Taller" (Deseret Book, 2001) is a collection of 365 quotations by President Hinckley presented with scriptural verses.
In his book "Standing for Something" (Random House, 2001), President Hinckley writes about "10 neglected virtues" that can make society a better place. "I hope to accomplish some good in reaching out to people who may not be interested in our theology but would be interested in our position and stance on some of these values that are of everlasting benefit to this nation and people across the world," President Hinckley writes.
"Way to Be!" (Simon & Schuster, 2002) is directed toward teenagers and their families and focuses on finding happiness in the modern world. The book includes the nine "Be's" — "Be honest," "Be cheerful," etc.
Deseret Book also published "Go Forward With Faith," a biography of President Hinckley written by Sheri Dew.
President Hinckley passed away Sunday at the age of 97.
