Utah attorney Christine S. Johnson has been appointed by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. to fill a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of 4th District Judge John Backlund.
Johnson's appointment still needs Utah Senate confirmation.
"Christine has a strong foundation as a local attorney and solid experience practicing in the 4th District Court," Huntsman said. "She has a sincere desire to serve her community, and I'm confident she will make a superb contribution to the bench."
Johnson has worked as a criminal defense attorney for the Utah County Public Defender Association and also has worked as assistant city attorney for Spanish Fork.
