Milton Lyman Weilenmann, former Utah Democratic Party chairman, state economic development director and restaurant owner, died Nov. 21, 2008. He was 89.

He had served as Utah economic development director under Gov. Calvin Rampton. Besides being the state Democratic Party chairman, he was also nominated to be a candidate for U.S. senator in 1968.

Mr. Weilenmann owned and operated Bratten's Ristorante, Della Fontana, the Print Shop and Grandmother's House.

Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission to Oklahoma, worked as a full-time seminary teacher, served on the LDS Missionary Committee and served as president of the Alaskan-Canadian Mission.

Mr. Weilenmann served in the infantry during World War II in Europe. A graduate of South High, he graduated from the University of Utah in political science where he excelled in debate.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, at noon in the Ensign Stake Center, 135 A St. Friends may call on Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to funeral services. Interment in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
