More no-longer-used Mormon words

Last month, we published a list of no-longer-used class names, programs and magazines in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Several readers have responded with some additions to the list:Blazers — At one time the 9-year-old boys and then later the 11-year-old Primary boys.Gold and Green Ball — Ward- or stake-sponsored formal dance.Golden Gleaner — An award that women in their late teens and early 20s could earn.Guide Patrol — In the late 1960s and early '70s, the older group of Primary boys.Junior M-Men and Junior Gleaners — Sixteen- to 18-year-old young men and young women. In 1959, the Junior Gleaners were renamed Laurels.Master M-Men — The male equivalent to Golden Gleaner.Merrie Miss — Most recently, the Primary class for 11-year-old girls. Earlier, the term had been used for 9-year-old girls.YWMIA — Young Women's Mutual Improvement AssociationCORRECTION — Lihomas (which stood for "Little Homemakers") was the term for older Primary girls. In the earlier story, Mormon Times incorrectly called them "Liahonas."JUST A THOUGHT — One reader suggested the church should have used "Crickets" to denote irreverent little boys and girls in Primary who were in danger of being kicked out by "Seagulls," who at one time were the older Primary children.
