OREM — Utah Valley State College announced Tuesday a plan to add both men's and women's tennis to its list of NCAA Division I programs, taking the total number at the soon-to-be university to 17.

The process of adding both programs is expected to take a total of three years with the men's program set to begin competition in the fall of the 2009-10 season and the women's program slated to start competing in the fall of the 2010-11 season.

"The addition of tennis to our athletics department is important for our progress as a Division I institution," Utah Valley Director of Athletics, Mike Jacobsen said.

"We're excited to be able to offer more student-athletes an opportunity to compete and get a quality education here at UVU."
