COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Veteran Crew defender Ezra Hendrickson retired Thursday, ending a 14-year professional career that included three MLS Cup titles.
Hendrickson, who turns 37 next week, spent 12 seasons with the Crew and helped the team to its first MLS Cup championship in 2008. He also played for New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, D.C. United and Chivas USA.
"I've played for some of the top organizations and enjoyed the support of all the fans. I intend to stay in the soccer world and continue to help the sport grow in the United States," Hendrickson said in a statement. "But at this point, I'm happy to finish my playing career as a champion with the Columbus Crew."
Hendrickson made 266 total appearances in the MLS, starting 225 games with 23 goals and 30 assists. He also appeared in 32 MLS Cup playoff games, starting 26 of them, and had five goals and three assists.
