WHISTLER, B.C. — Orem native Shauna Rohbock finished the first night of women's bobsled competition tied for sixth with her teammates.

Rohbock's sled, USA 1, and USA III were tied for sixth place, just .49 second away from a medal, after the first two runs of the four run competition at Whistler Olympic Park. USA II, piloted by Erin Pac, Connecticut, was in second place.

Rohbock and her partner Michelle Rzepka powered off the starting block for consistent times of 5.20 and 5.19 seconds for runs of 53.73 and 53.36 seconds, respectively. Rohbock had difficulty early on the course in both runs in corners four and five.

"I struggled in curves 4-5 all week," said Rohbock, a BYU grad who won a silver medal in 2006. "I just couldn't put it together. No one really has a clue, so I have to try new lines every time and see it if works out for me."

She was a little frustrated but optimistic about Wednesday's final runs.

"Our pushes were great, but then I messed up 4-5 and lost all of my speed going into the flat section," she said. "Then it's hard to get it back."

Pac said her success was unexpected but she was happy with the result.

"I definitely thought the standings would be a little bit different, but I'm happy to be in there," said Pac.
