SALT LAKE CITY — A Sandy resident is suing the La Caille restaurant, claiming that the noise coming from events hosted at the eatery disturb him.

The restaurant at 9565 S. Wasatch Blvd., sits adjacent to the man's home at 3641 E. Little Cottonwood Lane that he bought five years ago. According to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court, Steven Smith alleges the owners of the restaurant have continued to permit "excessively loud music and other noise to emanate from La Caille" despite calls made to police and other local authorities.

The lawsuit states that the Salt Lake Valley Health Department's community noise pollution control regulation forbids the use of sound amplification or reproduction equipment and musical instruments between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. in an area where someone lives.

Attempts to contact the La Caille owners for comment were unsuccessful.

Smith is requesting damages and an injunction preventing La Caille from allowing loud noise levels in the future.
