WASHINGTON — Utah's state court administrator Daniel Becker has been appointed as the sole court administrator on the board of directors of the national State Justice Institute after having been nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

His name was submitted to the group by the Conference of Chief Justices for consideration, and President Barack Obama nominated Becker for the position in December. Obama praised the four individuals — including Becker — that he recommended for "key administration posts."

"These talented individuals have proven experience in their fields, and I am grateful that they have agreed to serve in my administration," Obama said in a news release. "I am confident they will succeed in their new roles, and I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years."

Becker's nomination was confirmed by the Senate on June 22. He has worked as the state court administrator in Utah for the past 15 years and will remain in his current position, Utah courts spokeswoman Nancy Volmer said. Before 1995, he spent 11 years working in various capacities for the state court system in North Carolina.

According to the State Justice Institute's website, the institute's goal is to "improve the quality of justice in state courts, facilitate better coordination between state and federal courts, and foster innovative, efficient solutions to common issues faced by all courts."
