REXBURG, Idaho — BYU–Idaho's 13th Annual Education Week will be held July 29–31. It will feature brand-new classes geared toward youths, mothers and adults.
BYU–Idaho Education Week offers more than 350 classes taught by 45 instructors from BYU–Idaho, BYU and the Church Educational System. A few instructors from various other backgrounds have also been invited to teach. Each instructor was approved by the President's Council at BYU–Idaho and the Church Board of Trustees, and lesson topics are focused on fortifying learners' testimonies.
All classes, old and new, appeal to many circumstances and lifestyles. Class topics range from doctrine to self-improvement.
This year's Education Week has centered on creating new classes, inviting new teachers, and planning new activities in order to interest more people.
"It has been our goal to offer something new every year," said Alan Young, director of Education Week. "On average, 20 percent of the topics or instructors are new."
A feature being carried forward from last year is Youth Track, during which classes and evening entertainment are planned for youths. Because of its success, it is being offered again this year. Another new program, called Mom Track, will be hosted in the Thomas E. Ricks Building, offering mothers guidance and advice. For the first time, nursing babies will be allowed during this event.
Brand-new classes give information on the life of Abraham Lincoln, the English translation of the Bible, square-foot gardening and automotive self-reliance.
Special events include the Passover Commemoration conducted by Dr. Victor Ludlow and his wife, V-Ann, musical group Heartbound and pianist Marvin Goldstein. All four performers/instructors will also be teaching classes.
