BYU has secured a verbal commitment from prep quarterback Tanner Mangum, according to totalbluesports.com.

Mangum, a 6-foot-2, 182-pounder from Eagle High School near Boise, Idaho, will be part of the class of 2012. He chose the Cougars over Boise State, Arkansas, Oregon State and Utah. He is the younger brother of Parker Mangum, who played wide receiver for the Cougars (2007-09).

The Idaho Statesman has described Tanner Mangum as "a traditional drop-back passer who is athletic enough to break out of the pocket and run." Mangum has said he plans on serving a mission before enrolling.

As a junior, Mangum saw limited action due to a collarbone injury. He threw for 874 yards and 10 touchdowns.
