NORTH BEND, Wash. — A Washington survivalist who killed himself during a standoff in a remote ravine last weekend had a sweet tooth.
The Associated Press on Monday toured the shelter in the Cascade Mountains near Seattle where Peter Keller fled after authorities say he killed his wife and teenage daughter at their North Bend home. Keller had spent eight years building the bunker, carving it into a steep mountainside above a rushing creek.
He stocked it with all kinds of gear, including a wood stove made from a metal trash can and a generator. But he also had a few frills: a bucket filled with candy, 100 Grand bars in particular, and shelves stacked with bottles of Coke. Blood was spattered about.
SWAT teams found the bunker Friday. Keller shot himself that night.
