LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 4-1, on Saturday night at Orleans Arena in their season opener and as Utah completed back-to-back contests to start the year.

The Grizzlies outshot Las Vegas 41-22 in the contest and drew nine of the 13 power-plays in the game but were unable to get any momentum going.

Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal at 10:56 in the first period.

In the second, Utah drew four of five power-plays but was unable to tie the contest before Las Vegas quickly extended the lead from 1-0 to 4-0 with three goals in 2:54.

Utah got on the board at 4:46 into the third period on Jamie MacQueen’s fifth goal of the year in two games after he scored four goals Friday versus Idaho. David Vallorani, who has four assists in two games, and Adam Pineault, two assists in two games, drew assists.

The Grizzlies had some more good chances late but never were able to get the game to 4-2.

Igor Bobkov suffered the loss in goal for Utah, allowing four goals on 18 shots.

Utah returns home Wednesday to face Las Vegas at 7 p.m. On Friday, the Grizzlies will be giving away a Los Grizzlies team poster featuring player head shots. Faceoff with San Francisco is at 7 p.m.
