LaRue Westover 1930 ~ 2013Our wife, mother, and grandmother LaRue Westover passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, of natural causes. LaRue was born to Robert Duane McCandless and Mary Koshman McCandless, June 2, 1930, in Bingham Canyon, Utah. She attended schools in Bingham Canyon and Pleasant Grove, Utah, graduating with the Pleasant Grove High School Class of 1948. LaRue also attended LDS Business College and spent a long and productive career working as an executive assistant and secretary to Utah financial and banking intuitions. She also enjoyed a second career working as the attendance secretary at Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah. She married Udell Fowles Westover, July 27th, 1951, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. LaRue and Udell were partners for over 60 years and truly exemplify the commitment of marriage.LaRue was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Mary McCandless and a younger brother Robert Dee McCandless (1938). She is survived by her caring companion, Udell; three children, Karen (Ray) Gunn; Scot (Susan) Westover; Cheryl (Bruce) Jacobson, all of Utah. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.LaRue loved watching sporting events, cheering her beloved San Francisco 49er's football team, the Utah Jazz, and the BYU Cougars. She was also Udell's greatest fan and took great joy in supporting his career in athletics and coaching. The past years have brought many physical ailments for our wife and mother. LaRue bore these obstacles with dignity and courage, and always counted family as the greatest joy in her life struggles. She was proud of her children and grandchildren's many accomplishments, and always encouraged them to be the best at whatever they chose to do.Our family would like to thank IHC Homehealthcare, Aspen Senior Care, and her special friend Audra for making LaRue's last months manageable and comfortable in light of her deteriorating health. At LaRue's request there will be no public service. A private family service will be held Thursday, February 7th, 2013. She will be buried next to her parents and brother in the American Fork City cemetery following the family service.
