SALT LAKE CITY — Just in time for the final rosters for the regular season to be set, the Utah Jazz made a few player transactions on Monday afternoon.
Guard Carrick Felix, picked up this offseason in a trade with Cleveland, was cut by the Jazz despite having a guaranteed contract worth 816,482 this season. In addition, Utah claimed forwards Joe Ingles and Jordan Hamilton off of waivers.
The 6-foot-6 Felix played college ball at the College of Southern Idaho and Arizona State before getting drafted in the second round by Cleveland in 2013. He was traded to Utah with cash in exchange for John Lucas III, Erik Murphy and Malcolm Thomas this summer.
Felix didn't score in four brief appearances with the Jazz during the preseason after dealing with a shoulder injury, which occurred in the first practice of training camp.
Ingles (Clippers) and Hamilton (Raptors) were cut by their previous NBA teams over the weekend.
Ingles is a 6-8 Australian — rookie Dante Exum's roommate with the national team, in fact — who has played professionally in his native land, Spain and Israel. The small forward averaged 11 points, three rebounds and three assists with the Aussies this summer in the FIBA World Cup.
Hamilton, a late first-round pick by Dallas in 2011, played three seasons with the Nuggets before finishing the 2013-14 campaign in Houston. The 6-7 forward has averaged 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in his NBA career.
The Jazz roster now has a maximum 15 players heading into Wednesday's season opener against Houston.
FAVORS UPDATE: Jazz center Derrick Favors didn't practice again Monday, but the fifth-year big man is listed as probable for Wednesday's season-opener against Houston.
"He’s one of our anchors to our defense and our offense. He’s one of our leaders," Jazz rookie Rodney Hood said. "He’s a big presence for us out there. If he’s not out there, we’ve got to come together more as a group. But if he is, we’ll definitely be happy."
Favors was sidelined in Friday's preseason-finale against Phoenix after experiencing knee soreness.
"Just making sure he's rested is more important than having him in practice," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "But we’ll look forward to having him in the games."
LONG TREK: Jazz rookie Dante Exum will make his NBA debut Wednesday, and his Melbourne, Australia-based family will be there to cheer him on at EnergySolutions Arena.
"Yeah. They arrived today," he said. Exum then smiled at reporters and added, "So you guys are holding me up."
For the record, the media members laughed and ended the six-minute interview session.
