"MOJAVE GREEN: Dimensions in Death, Book 2," by the Brothers Washburn, Jolly Fish Press, $14.99, 324 pages (f)
The end of "Pitch Green: Dimensions in Death" left an unanswered question: Was it really over?
Perhaps the hideous monster that terrorized the town of Trona, California, by periodically devouring little children was finally dead. But the mansion full of tiny skulls, the local chemical plant and unsolved mysteries remained.
The Brothers Washburn — A.L. Washburn and B.W. Washburn, who live in Colorado and southern Utah — are back. When reading "Mojave Green," the second book in the Dimensions in Death series, be sure to turn on every light and then nestle in for a terrifying journey, because something even more dangerous, even more terrifying, is slithering through the town.
When they discover that a dark evil has returned, Camm and Cal, characters from "Pitch Green," also return to Trojan with new friends, Martha and Lenny, to find out what else has escaped. They will try to work together to destroy this new creature. But don't expect a happy ending tied neatly with a bow.
Fans of the first book will be excited to go on another grim adventure with Camm and Cal. Readers new to the series may want to start with "Pitch Green" before reading "Mojave Green," but enough content and background information is provided so new readers will not be lost.
The Brothers Washburn excel in drama and build a scene with masterful skill.
The language in "Mojave Green" is clean, and the danger does not leave any time for romance. The authors do not shy away from giving readers each and every detail. Children disappear, leaving only a boot behind on the trail. A teenager is stalked and eaten whole. And that is only the beginning.
