Real Monarchs selected Freddy Juarez as their first head coach Tuesday.
Juarez, who has coached for four years at Real Salt Lake's academy in Arizona, was hired by new RSL technical director Craig Waibel. The 36-year-old has coached the academy's U-18 and U-16 teams—developing, among other players, RSL players Sebastian Saucedo, Justen Glad and Jordan Allen.
The Monarchs will play their inaugural season in USL Pro, the third tier of North American professional soccer.
"Freddy has done a great job developing young players in Arizona and we are confident that he will continue to do that in our organization at the USL level," Waibel said in a RSL news release. "We look forward to working closely with him as we launch the Monarchs."
The team also announced the appointment of former Morehead State University women's soccer coach David Lara to the Monarchs coaching staff.
