A blog post published April 9 by The Washington Post analyzed what the rising cost of day care means for Americans.
The post, titled "Start saving now: Day care costs more than college in 31 states," shared research from Child Care Aware America that found just that: Child care exceeds the average cost of in-state tuition and fees at public colleges in more than half the country.
The blog post questioned how families can possibly save and pay for such expenses, referencing a recent Pew Research Center report.
"A report out Tuesday by the Pew Research Center finds that an increasing number of parents are simply avoiding child care costs by staying at home," the article reads. "Nearly 30 percent of moms stay at home now, up from only 23 percent in 1999."
