PARK CITY — A woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition Sunday night after being struck by a truck while walking across a dimly-lit intersection in Summit County, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas said.

The woman, described as being in her early-20s, was dressed in dark clothing and listening to music while crossing the intersection of Sun Peak Drive and State Route 224 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Lucas said.

While crossing the intersection, the woman was hit by a truck pulling a trailer and turning to travel south on State Route 224, Lucas said.

"He turned and didn’t see her until it was too late," Lucas said.

Lucas said the woman was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where she was reportedly in critical condition.

She said the incident was still under investigation and it was not yet clear whether the driver of the truck could face charges in the incident.

Lucas said drivers should remember to check crosswalks before passing through an intersection. But she added that pedestrians walking at night should also wear light or reflective clothing and should pay attention to their surroundings.

"As a pedestrian you also want to make sure you’re aware of the traffic around you," she said.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
