Family time, according to several studies, builds stronger family ties, self-esteem, strong character and creates lifelong memories. For one Utah family, however, that family time involves motorcycles and a myriad of other kids' toys used to jump over 70-foot gaps.
Utah native Josh Roberts is a long-time face of the Nitro Circus Tour and will be returning home to Utah this week to perform in front of another sold-out stadium at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
“This is our second time being able to perform for our home state,” said Roberts. “It is still as exciting as the first time. I enjoy and care about the show we provide to every stop we go to around the world. But, there is always something special about coming home. This year on the tour we have a great show full of the best heart-pounding excitement.”
The family has been involved with the Nitro Circus show from the beginning. Roberts’ uncle Gregg Godfrey is one of the founders and creators of the concept. Since the first live tour in Australia four years ago, Roberts, his two brothers and cousins have traveled the globe performing 200 plus shows on five continents.
“Growing up we would always do crazy stunts,” said Roberts. “It’s a family business. My brothers Ethan and Tyler and I get to travel the world together and showcase our passions in life. Never in a million years did I ever imagine that my career would be doing insane stunts in iconic stadiums across the world.”
As the tour returns home to Utah Friday, Roberts expects the Utah crowds to be raucous and rowdy once again.
“The North America tour is coming to a close for us and Utah is the second to last stop. Our first show was sold out and we expect to see more from the crowds this time. Utah is an action sports playground. The locals in Utah love the action sports lifestyle and, not to give anything about the show away, I can guarantee that you will be just as impressed this second time.”
“When we come home there a little more pressure to perform. We want to nail our tricks and push the level of our stunts higher. While freestyle motocross riders have to be precise in their tricks so they don’t crash, our jump landings have padding on them, allowing us to push the boundaries of the tricks and go bigger. Being in front of the Utah crowds and our family will add the extra motivation to push ourselves even further than we have all tour. Some people that we grew up with still don’t really understand what we do. This tour allows us to showcase what we do as a family and what we have created together.”
The show takes place Friday, Nov. 20, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through nitrocircus.com.
