WEST JORDAN — A man was charged Thursday with raping and assaulting a woman while he held her hostage for three days.

Patrick Raymond Yazzie, 49, was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and rape, first-degree felonies, and two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

The woman, whose age was not disclosed in court documents, went to Yazzie's West Jordan home on Jan. 29. Yazzie began drinking and then allegedly did not allow the woman to leave.

Over the next three days, police say, Yazzie punched and kicked the woman "all over her body," hit her in the back with a hammer, and "bit the victim's face causing a large bruise and teeth marks on her face."

Police say the woman was also sexually assaulted. When she tried to leave, Yazzie "would lift her up and bring her back into the home," charging documents state.

On Feb. 1, the woman was able to call her mother for help. When Yazzie found out, he beat her again, the charges state. The mother went to Yazzie's house and found her daughter wearing only a shirt and underwear in Yazzie's bedroom and Yazzie "intimidating" her, according to a police report. The daughter was taken to the hospital.

The two had previously lived together, according to police.

Yazzie was charged with rape and forcible sodomy in a separate case in August. The case was dismissed after a key witness failed to show up for the preliminary hearing, according to court records. The same thing happened with aggravated kidnapping and assault charges that were filed in June. Utah state court records show Yazzie also has an extensive history of DUI charges as well as disorderly conduct and assault.
