MILLCREEK — A 17-year-old girl is dead after being hit by an SUV Tuesday evening, and police are investigating whether her 17-year-old boyfriend may have hit her with the vehicle intentionally.
The two teenagers were arguing shortly before police say the boy backed over his girlfriend with a Ford Explorer behind a home at 416 E. 3900 South.
The girl, identified as Micaela Klalie Sigala, died at the scene. The boy was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray after the incident with minor shoulder injuries.
Investigators were unsure late Tuesday whether the boy intentionally ran over Sigala, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.
"Right now we have our crash analysis and reconstruction team that’s out here diagramming the scene, talking to witnesses and trying to determine what happened," Hoyal said.
Police were called to the scene about 6:45 p.m. and planned to stay there throughout the night to piece together the crash, Hoyal said.
Sigala was a student at Cottonwood High School and had just finished her junior year, a friend said.
