Jordan Devey’s NFL career is bringing him closer to his hometown.

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday they have acquired the offensive tackle from the New England Patriots in exchange for tight end Asante Cleveland.

Devey, the American Fork native who played two years at Snow College and two more at the University of Memphis, signed with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2013 after going undrafted. He was waived by the Ravens but signed with the Patriots in September 2013 and spent that season on the practice squad.

Last year, the 6-foot-6, 320-pounder made the 53-man roster and played in seven regular-season games for New England, starting four during the early part of the season. He was inactive for Super Bowl XLIX, but earned a championship ring with the Patriots’ 28-24 victory over Seattle.

"(There's) more work to do," Devey said in the locker room after New England's Super Bowl win. "Wake up tomorrow and you’re a Super Bowl champ, but you’ve got to work on next year because it’s coming fast."

Devey, who's played both tackle and guard in the NFL, started and played 16 offensive snaps during the Patriots’ preseason loss to Green Bay last week. He also took reps at center during New England’s practice on Tuesday, according to the team.

The trade is contingent on both players passing a physical.
