NEWTON, Cache County — Police have identified the Logan man who died Sunday while kayaking with his wife in Cache County.

William Franklin Kline, 76, was in a kayak on Cutler Reservoir when his wife briefly lost contact with him, the Cache County Sheriff's Office said. Both had fallen out of their kayaks and were trying to find each other when Kline reportedly went silent.

Kline's wife soon found him face down on the water. A passing boater took Kline to first responders, but they were not able to revive him.

Kline was about a mile north of the nearest boat dock at the time of the incident. Neither he nor his wife were wearing life jackets.

Police are still unsure whether Kline died from drowning or another cause. The state medical examiner is conducting an investigation into the cause of his death.

"We offer sincere condolences to Mrs. Kline and her family during this difficult time," Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said in a statement Tuesday.
