Mr. Trump’s victory is not mine to share. I resigned from the Republican Party the day he was officially nominated. Ms. Clinton’s loss is not mine to lament. I didn’t vote for her either. These are the most disliked candidates in the history of U.S. elections. That one of them would inevitably win is a loss for the majority of Americans. Truly the political parties have failed us. Partisanship produces poor candidates who run divisive, ugly political races, with winners who are poorly prepared to govern.

With the wreckage of both major parties now surrounding us after this bitter campaign, and with most of the electorate truly unhappy with the choices presented by partisan machinery, I invite you to join me in a post-partisan America. Come out from behind your party affiliation. Stop watching CNN and Fox News and other variations of reality TV. Let us in Utah never again wait around for the party insiders to limit our choice of candidates in elections. We can petition better candidates onto the ballot, work for their campaigns ourselves, and be part of the governance thereafter.
