One Utah smartphone company has grown faster than any other.

A recent report from the NPD Group found that BodyGuardz, a mobile phone case company based in Lehi, was the fastest growing mobile case provider across the United States.

The company leads all other Samsung and iPhone case brands, making it the fastest-growing mobile case accessory company, too, according to a press release.

For the uninitiated, BodyGuardz revolutionized the smartphone case market, selling tempered glass screen protection for smartphones. The company also recently designed a case with “pro athlete” technology, which is built to withstand hard impacts.

The company also has a Advantage Program warranty policy, which allows free protector replacement, a 20 percent discount at the company store and a one-year warranty on cases, according to the program’s website.

“We choose to look ahead, and use the future as our guide for designing incredible products, as we’re constantly exploring new form factors, cutting-edge materials and concept combinations in order to create mobile solutions that are uniquely beautiful, durable and forward thinking,” Leslie Greve, senior director of category management, BGZ brands, said in a press release. “We believe that our phone cases are the best on the market, and we’re thrilled that our hard work has been well received by our customers, and that they love our cases as much as we do.”

According to the company’s website, BodyGuardz started in 2002 in Draper. That’s before the age of the modern smartphones, when the company would provide screen protectors for flip phones.

The company’s founder, Kirk Feller, struggled in the beginning of the company’s life. He went six months without earning a salary, with the company earning $8,000 total in its first year of existence, according to BeeHive Startups.

To make ends meet, Feller put his home up for sale and used hs 401(k) to survive.

But that’s all history. Feller took his initial company, ScreenGuardz, and turned it into BodyGuardz — a company worth $50 million, according to Beehive Startups. He then started a parent company called BGZ Brands — which also owns Lander, which sells phone accessories for outdoor adventurers, and Moxyo, which sells cables and earphones, among other phone products.

Feller told Beehive Startups the growing tech industry allows the brands to grow and innovate easily.

“Literally every day a new device is being launched. We have to be able to move quickly,” he said.

Now, the company makes sleeves for phones, tablets and computers. Feller will sometimes have to escape out to the backlands of the Provo River to get away from his highly successful business, according to Inc.

"You get away from a lot of the irrelevant stuff in life,” he told Inc.

Back in 2011, the company found itself on Inc.’s 5,000 list, ranked at the 1,052 spot. Seven other Utah companies also made the list that year. In 2015, the company was added to Inc.’s 500 companies list, and was marked as the 436th fastest-growing company in the country.

Now, the company seems to be growing even more, according to the NPD report.

“Our core values are integrity, innovation, quality, hard work, customer service and giving back,” Feller told Beehive Startups. “Everything that we do has to involve those values.”
