Real Salt Lake reshuffles coaching staff

Real Salt Lake announced some changes to Jeff Cassar's coaching staff Tuesday.

Assistant coach Richie Williams has "mutually agreed to part ways with the club" while former Real Monarchs head coach Freddy Juarez joins Cassar's staff that includes holdovers Tyrone Marshall and Daryl Shore, according to a RSL news release.

Ted Eck, who was the RSL's forwards coach last season, was not mentioned in the release. The club said it will have further announcements about staff in the coming weeks.

"It is important that we continue to evolve across the competitive side of our club, with every detail aimed at capturing hardware for RSL and our incredible fans," said Cassar. "I want to thank Richie for his commitment to the club this season and also welcome Freddy to the first team staff after two productive seasons with the Monarchs."

Juarez saw the Monarchs compile a 17-27-14 record in the club's first two and only seasons in the USL. Three of his players, Emery Welshman, Richardo Velazco and Chris Schuler have signed contracts with RSL, however only Velazco is among the 17 players currently under contract.

Williams had been with RSL for the 2016 season.

"Thanks to RSL ownership, to Jeff and to Craig for the year here, and for the opportunity now afforded me to explore my options," Williams said in the release. "The commitment to the future of the sport here in Utah exhibited by RSL at all levels and the ambition for growth, depth and breadth sets a standard for the future of MLS."

The club will begin a search for a new Monarchs head coach.
