Brekkott Chapman will be moving closer to home.

The former Roy High School standout, who played two years at the University of Utah, has transferred to Weber State.

Chapman declared his intentions to leave the Runnin' Utes in early May, and it was widely thought that he'd end up in Ogden.

In Chapman, the Wildcats get a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward who displayed the ability to play both inside and on the perimeter while at Utah. He was expected to be in the mix for a starting job in Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak's rotation this fall.

Chapman appeared in all 36 of the Runnin' Utes games a season ago, averaging 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 13.4 minutes of play per contest.

He was highly touted coming out of Roy High School, having chosen Utah over schools such as Arizona, Gonzaga, UCLA and BYU.

“We are very excited that Brekkott has decided to join our program and the Weber State family,” Wildcats head coach Randy Rahe said in a statement. “We’ve known Brekkott well and have watched him throughout his high school years and his time at Utah, and we feel very strongly that he has tremendous potential to become a very good and impactful player, as well as a great person and student in our program.”

In his annual list of transfers in college basketball, ESPN's Jeff Goodman put Chapman among the five most impactful.

In accordance with NCAA rules, Chapman will sit out the upcoming season, and he'll be eligible for the 2017-18 campaign.
