Former BYU wide receiver Jordan Leslie was waived by the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday, a victim of the first wave of NFL cuts that must happen by Tuesday's deadline.
Leslie had three catches for 48 yards in three preseason games for the Falcons, including a two-catch, 35-yard effort against Cleveland on Aug. 18. He did not have a catch in Atlanta's most recent game on Thursday, a 17-6 loss to Miami.
Leslie, who spent time on the practice squad with Jacksonville and the Falcons last season, played a total of 64 offensive snaps during preseason play for Atlanta. His 31 snaps against the Browns was a high among Falcons wide receivers that game.
Leslie was one of eight players the Falcons waived along with another being released as the team trimmed its roster to 75 players. NFL rosters must be cut to 75 players by Tuesday and down to 53 by Sept. 3.
With Atlanta already down to its necessary 75 players by Tuesday's deadline, that means former Utah State tight end D.J. Tialavea and former Weber State cornerback Devonte Johnson made first cuts with the Falcons, as did veteran defensive end Derrick Shelby from the University of Utah.
With Leslie being waived, there are now 70 players with local ties on NFL rosters or on injured reserve.
