SALT LAKE CITY — What is Utah? The state’s Film Commission wants to find out with a photo contest open to the nation.
Photographers from around the country are being asked to “showcase the state’s beauty and diversity” in the new contest initiative called “This is Utah,” sponsored by the Utah Film Commission.
“Our mission is to inspire creatives and visionaries to bring compelling stories to life here in Utah,” said Virginia Pearce, director of the Utah Film Commission, in a press release. “Our state has a lot of hidden gems and back roads and we’re hoping to help reveal those spaces to new artists.”
Winners, as chosen by a panel of industry judges, will see their submissions placed on exhibit at the Film Commission’s venue at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
The Grand Prize Winner's award will include a one-year subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, a $100 gift certificate to Pictureline, Sundance film tickets and an official Sundance Film Festival credential.
According to the press release, photographers interested in entering the content should be aware of the following requirements:
- Submit unique Utah locations
- Landscapes or structures (interior or exterior)
- Submit up to three locations
- Only digital files will be accepted
- Submit only JPEG images, 6 x 6 inches (square format), 300 dpi
- No HDR or heavy, stylized editing
- Black and white photos are allowed
The initiative runs through Nov. 30. Contest details can be found on the Utah Film Commission photo contest webpage. For further information, contact Kenyon Virchow at kvirchow@utah.gov or call 801-538-8740.
