SANDY — Police identified the contractor who was killed after a dirt wall collapsed on him Friday afternoon.

Unified police identified the man on Twitter Saturday as Vicente Santoyo, of Salt Lake City.

"Our deepest condolences to his family who flew in from Chicago," the tweet concluded.

The 42-year-old worker was partially buried when heavy equipment fell on him about 2 p.m. Friday, police reported.

Chunks of concrete and trees also fell on the man, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

The contractor was working in a trench near 2791 Ksel Drive in the Granite Ridge neighborhood at the time of the accident.

Investigators are still determining why the dirt wall caved in.
