Health care took center stage this week.

Utah Sen. Mike Lee officially withdrew support from the new health care legislation many Republicans have worked hard to push through Congress. Lee said the legislation did not do enough to help middle class families make the decisions that are best for them.

"After conferring with trusted experts regarding the latest version of the Consumer Freedom Amendment, I have decided I cannot support the current version of the Better Care Reconciliation Act,” Lee said in a statement earlier this week, according to the Associated Press. “In addition to not repealing all of the Obamacare taxes, it doesn’t go far enough in lowering premiums for middle class families; nor does it create enough free space from the most costly Obamacare regulations.”

In addition to Lee removing his support from the legislation, Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran, Maine Sen. Susan Collins, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, all Republicans, also voiced their opposition to the bill, effectively killing the health care act.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is now two votes short of what he needs to pass the bill and may have to consider other options to reform health care.

On top of that, doctors announced on Wednesday that Sen. John McCain has glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Doctors said the cancer was associated with a blood clot he had surgery on last week, according to The Associated Press.

The 80-year-old senator is now recovering at his home in Arizona.
