The Utah Cultural Alliance recently announced that October is the country’s National Arts and Humanities Month. The state of Utah will celebrate with activities that raise awareness of the arts and humanities and the value the events bring to communities, according to a news release. Utahns are encouraged to search and use #showyourhumanities through October and find cultural activities throughout the state — including those at Nowplayingutah.com. One activity includes the 22nd annual Utah Humanities’ Book Festival with events throughout the month. Partners include Utah Humanities, Utah Division of Arts & Museums, Utah Museum Association and Utah Cultural Alliance. The Salt Lake City Arts Council recently announced applications are open for the Holiday Craft Market. Nearly 80 artists will take part in the December market with a variety of offerings, including jewelry, ceramics, textiles, artwork, prints and letterpress items, glass art, holiday decorations, items for the home, artisan food and more. All interested artists should complete the online application by Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. Guidelines and applications can be found at saltlakearts.org/program/holiday-craft-market/. The arts council also recently announced the Finch Lane Flash Projects. According to a news release, the goal of the projects is to supplement resources for emerging to established individuals and groups by providing professional opportunities. The projects can include performance pieces, sound installations, workshops, film screenings, community gatherings and more. The online application deadline is Monday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. Visit saltlakearts.org/finch-lane-flash-projects for guidelines and applications. Also announced was the deadline for the Mini Grant applications on Oct. 22. This is for art projects within Salt Lake City occurring December 2019 through August 2020. Grant awards will be $500. The Utah Division of Arts and Museums recently announced a call to Utah artists creating mixed media and works on paper to enter the statewide annual art exhibition. Online registration is open through Oct. 20. Artwork should be dropped off at the Rio Gallery on Oct. 22-23, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Selected work will be on display Nov. 16, 2019-Jan. 11, 2020.
