Film Music Reporter announced Monday that “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” composer Daniel Pemberton had been hired to compose the score for upcoming superhero movie “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).”
Pemberton is well-versed in composing scores for fun movies, according to Screen Rant, having composed scores for “Ocean’s Eight,” “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and Netflix’s acclaimed fantasy series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.”
Pemberton tweeted a poster for the upcoming film on Monday with the caption, “In other upcoming news..”
According to ComicBook.com, many fans interpreted this as an announcement of his involvement with the film.
The film will be directed by Cathy Yan, and will depict the return of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) after her breakup with the Joker. Quinn will be joined by the all-female Gotham City superhero team Birds of Prey, consisting of Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco).
“You can expect something really fun and a bit wild and totally unique,” Winstead said in a recent interview. “Every day we were there, we were doing something that just felt really weird and funny and unlike anything else I’ve seen before in this genre. It was incredibly exciting to get to do that. We really got to work. We just played, and we had fun.”
“Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is set to be released on Feb. 7, 2020, by Warner Bros. Pictures; a trailer for the film was released Tuesday.
