The live musical event is a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the animated “Little Mermaid” film, in a “never-before-seen hybrid format that will take viewers on a magical adventure under the sea as live musical performances by a star-studded cast are interwoven into the broadcast of the original feature film,” according to a description from ABC.

Disney is also working on a live-action film adaptation of the animated movie, which will star Halle Bailey as Ariel, the Deseret News reported. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2020.
